This sample water bill helps you quickly find clear explanations for every section of your bill.​
1: Name, Service Address, and Type of Service (Rate Class)

This section indicates the name on the account, the address that the service(s) is being provided to, and if it is a Residential, General Service, or Commercial rate class. Residential customers are automatically assigned the “Residential Service” rate class.

Your Account Number is a 10-digit number that identifies your unique customer information profile with Greater Sudbury Utilities. This number is located in the top right area of your bill. You will need to reference this number when making payments, enrolling in programs, signing up for online tools or contacting our Customer Service team.

The Billing Date identifies when the bill is prepared. Print Date is the date we printed your bill.  The Due Date indicates the last day that payment will be accepted before late fees are applied.

Remember to check this message box each month for important information that might affect your bill.

  1. Previous balance: the previous balance prior to the current bill
  2. Payments and Adjustments: payments made in between your last bill and the current bill will appear here
  3. Water/Water Water: your water/water charges will appear here
  4. Total Amount Due: your total bill amount will appear here

To be submitted with your payment

  • a) Meter Number: Your Meter Number is a unique number that identifies your meter with the City of Greater Sudbury (CGS) and allows us to collect accurate data for billing purposes.
  • b) Read Dates: Your Read Dates indicate the start and end date of when your water usage data (m3) was captured for billing. A billing cycle ranges from approximately 27 to 33 calendar days. This means that your bill could reflect a period of water use that is longer than one month.
  • c) Billing Days: You can tell the length of your billing cycle by reviewing the 'Billing Days' column on your bill.
  • d) Meter Readings: this will show you the previous and the present read on your meter
  • e) Usage: This value represents your total usage (m3) during your Meter Reading Period.
  • f) Units: type of measurement used for billing purposes
  • g) Water Rate per m3: water rate charged by CGS for the current year
  • h) Monthly Fixed Service Charge: This charge is set by CGS and is determined by your service size.
  • i) Wastewater Surcharge: The wastewater surcharge is applied to total water charges (usage and fixed service) as there are no meters to measure outflows of wastewater.
