Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking (EWRB)

EWRB Reporting and Requesting your Data from Greater Sudbury Utilities (GSU)

For 2021 – 100,000 sq ft and larger must report and as of 2023 – 50,000 sq ft and larger will be required to report. Some buildings are exempt – for clarification, visit the Ministry of Energy site at www.ontario.ca.
Under the EWRB regulation, the utility is required to make aggregated consumption information available to building owners upon request, so that they can report their data to the Ministry of Energy annually, by July 1, for the previous year.
Due to the large volume of requests we expect to receive, requests received after June 1 may not be processed by the July 1 deadline. It may take up to 6 weeks to process requests, once all clarification is received. We encourage building owners to request their data as soon as possible each year.

We may need to follow up with a building owner, in the event that any information in the request form is unclear or missing. In addition, we may require some time to validate third-party representatives who request information on behalf of a building owner.

Energy consumption data can be requested for one or multiple buildings/complexes. If your building has a single EWRB number, but multiple civic addresses (e.g. a multi-tower complex, connected with an atrium, or an outdoor access retail complex), you will need to provide all relevant addresses. This is still considered a single “building” or “complex” for EWRB purposes. Visit the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines site for further clarification at www.ontario.ca.

If you are a building owner that has to comply with the Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking (EWRB) Regulation, you may be able to gather consumption data from your bill or you may fill out the form below to request your consumption data.

Before you submit your request form, you should gather the following information:

  1. The Ontario EWRB number for the building. This number can be obtained from the Ministry of Energy.
  2. The account number(s) for all accounts that are part of the building (as many as you can gather).
  3. Property/Civic address(es) – provide as many as you can that are associated with that property.
  4. Contact Information for requester and building owner and who has authority.

Note: If you designate a third party to submit your request please ensure you provide a letter of authorization with the completed form. We may need to follow up with a building owner in the event that any information in the request form is unclear or missing or to validate third-party representatives who request information on behalf of a building owner.
If you are requesting consumption for a single metered building that is tenant occupied, you will require an authorization letter from the tenant to allow the utility to provide the data.

If you have any questions before filling out and submitting the form, please send your inquiry to customerservice@gsuinc.ca.
