Power Line Clearances

Trees, Vegetation & Power

We take a proactive approach to vegetation control to reduce power outages caused by trees & branches falling on power lines during severe wind and weather events. There are approximately 1,000 kilometers of powerlines in our distribution system. The service territory is divided into sections, and several sections are completed each year. It takes about 4 years for us to work-through the entire GSH service territory. For the safety of everyone, 3m (10ft) of clear space around power lines is required. Trees or branches that touch a power line can become energized, and that can be harmful, even fatal, to both people and pets.
